EU-GLOBE PROJECT
The EU role in global health: a critical appraisal of synergies and (possible) tensions
This project aims to explore the stronger and more ambitious role that the EU intends to play under the new
EU Global Health Strategy. It will move from the consideration that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a driver for a more ambitious global political role and that it has had two political consequences for the European Union: it has put closer integration of EU internal health activities on the agenda, and it has pulled the EU in a leading position on global health policy. This background calls for a close look at the re positioning of the EU in the global health arena and at its relationships with other international organizations and global actors, first and foremost the World Health Organization.
EU-AFRICA PROJECT
EU-Africa: regional comparisons and partnerships in public health emergencies prevention, preparedness and response

This project aims to contribute to the policy debate on the relationships between the EU and Africa, in line with the Commission’s priority “Africa-EU Partnership”. The focus of the project will rest on the topic of prevention, preparedness and response to public health emergencies. The Africa-EU Partnership is a multi-actor partnership guided by the EU and African Union (AU). Member States along with several non-state and civil society organisations, youth bodies, economic and social actors, and the private sector. The scope of the project is not only to explore the strength of this partnership in the public health field, especially looking at those synergies that may allow a better and more effective response to public health emergencies, but also to assess the influence that the EU legal framework may have in the regulation of specific issues, like, for example, the management and circulation of health data.
